Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi and former Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has likened the internal contest within the New Patriotic Party for a flagbearer for the 2028 elections to the biblical story of King Solomon and the two women who fought over the right ownership of a baby.
In the biblical narration, one of the two feuding women asked King Solomon to divide the baby into halves and give an equal part to her.
But the wise King determined the right mother of the child after scrutinizing the insensitive and jealous posture of the other woman who was eagerly calling for the child to be divided among them.
The latter’s demand for equal halves is symbolically translated as a lack of empathy and care for the child and the right mother.
Speaking to NPP delegates at Ofoase-Ayirebi today, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said some NPP aspirants are behaving like the woman who wanted the baby destroyed.
“I want to refer all to the Bible, First Kings 3:16. This is where you find King Solomon and the two women who were fighting for the rights to a baby.”
“One of the women in the dispute told King Solomon to cut the baby into two. However, the Bible says that God gave King Solomon wisdom and he realized that the true mother of the baby had motherly sympathy towards the baby, so she did not want the baby killed and divided into two.
“King Solomon ruled for the righteous woman who said she wanted peace so the baby should not be killed and divided into two. He ruled that she was the true owner of the baby,” Oppong Nkrumah told his constituents.
Oppong Nkrumah said the utterances by some of the aspirants are aimed at creating confusion in the NPP and disaffection for the party just like the jealous woman in the King Solomon story who wanted the baby killed.
“When you look at the conversations going on in our internal contest, you’ll realize that some of the aspirants are preaching positivity and unity for the party. Others are also like the woman who wanted the baby killed.”
“When you listen to the messages of some of the aspirants, it is all about disunity, knocking heads together and causing confusion in our party. They only say things that will make the party unattractive.”
He concluded; “However, one man, Dr. Bawumia never does that. Today that he’s here, he won’t insult anybody, he won’t say things that will bring disunity to the party. He always talks about his vision and what he will do for this party and the country.”
“So, if you want to know, in Biblical context, who is then rightful owner (of the child) in this our internal context as it is said in Kings 3:16? The one who is creating disunity and chaos is not the rightful owner.”
Oppong Nkrumah appealed to the party’s delegates to make the best decision for the NPP by electing Dr. Bawumia to continue what the party is building, warning that some people are only out to destroy the party.
“I always say that in this party, we always build up to a level and then some people try to bring everything down. God has given us a gift because despite all the challenges in 2024, we had a man who was able to lead us to secure 41.7%.
“We have an opportunity to present him again and build on what we have done but some people are bent on destroying everything with divisive comments and asking you to destroy everything. These are people who do not love the party’s progress.”
