Canal+ and MultiChoice have cut the number of DStv packages from six to four across Sub-Saharan Africa. The simplified line-up also brings every Premier League match into a mid-tier sports bundle for the first time.
The new packages, launched under the “Expect More” campaign, take effect in November 2026]. The line-up covers both DStv and GOtv.
Outside South Africa, which is getting five bouquets, subscribers will have four DStv packages, with no Movies and Series package. The top-tier DStv Premium has been rebranded DStv Ultimate. Prices have been reduced in various countries.
In Kenya, DStv Starter now costs KES 750 (about $6) a month, Select KES 1,500, Sports KES 3,000 and Ultimate KES 7,300 (about $56). The same prices apply on the DStv Stream app. SuperSport Swahili has been added as a new channel for East Africa.
The report says the restructuring in East Africa comes as Canal+ and MultiChoice have seen continued dramatic loss and churn in DStv subscribers in Kenya, their third-largest market on the continent.
In Ghana, the government has reached a new agreement with Canal+ and MultiChoice Ghana to introduce cheaper DStv subscription packages. The aim is to make pay television more affordable and discourage the use of pirated services and illegal “ghost boxes”.
The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, made the announcement alongside MultiChoice Ghana and Canal+ officials. He said the move resulted from government engagement driven by the need to protect Ghanaian consumers by making television content more affordable.
“I think that for us, when we began this journey with MultiChoice and now, Canal Plus, the question had been very simple. How do we put content in the hands or in the homes of Ghanaian families at a price that is affordable? The Ghanaian consumer is our ultimate interest,” the minister said.
