NPP flagbearer race: ‘If you can’t control your own people, how can you lead?’ – Bryan Acheampong asks opponents

Bryan Acheampong, one of the hopefuls for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer role, questioned his fellow aspirants’ ability to lead if they cannot manage their own supporters.

Speaking to the media, the Abetifi MP and former Minister for Food and Agriculture emphasized that his campaign is grounded in issues rather than propaganda or personal attacks.

“We encourage ourselves to stay away from propaganda against our opponents. In as much as some propaganda is required to win the polls, we are staying away from that,” he said.

Acheampong added that his supporters are expected to maintain dignity and refrain from antagonizing other candidates.

“We don’t intend to harm anybody with our campaign. If you support me, you cannot speak against my opponent,” he vowed.

He also criticized aspirants whose followers have been involved in smear campaigns, asserting that leadership demands discipline and self-control.

“All the people speaking against other people — we know them and who they support. And if you cannot control your own people, how can you lead?” he questioned.

His comments come at a time when the NPP flagbearer race is becoming increasingly competitive. Elders within the party have urged all candidates to conduct clean campaigns, avoid internal conflict, and uphold respect.
