The legal dispute over who is entitled to perform widowhood rites for the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba has been adjourned to October 28, 2025, by a Kumasi High Court, as the late musician’s wife, Akosua Serwaa, seeks official recognition as his only surviving spouse.
The case, which could impact the planned funeral scheduled for December 6 at the Baba Yara Stadium, pits Akosua Serwaa against the family head, Kofi Owusu Fosu, and Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as “Odo Broni.”
During proceedings on Thursday, October 16, lawyers for the defendants sought to challenge Akosua Serwaa’s legal standing to bring the case, but the judge declined to hear the objection, stating it was not properly before the court. After hearing arguments from both sides, Her Ladyship Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur adjourned the case and encouraged the parties to seek an amicable resolution.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, William Kusi, expressed hope that the case would be resolved before December to avoid disrupting the funeral arrangements. “We’re committed to protecting the integrity of Lumba. We’re ready to ensure the date for the funeral comes on,” he said.

Akosua Serwaa is seeking a court order to prevent Odo Broni from presenting herself as the late musician’s surviving wife. She maintains that she is the only legally wedded spouse and that neither she nor her children were consulted about the funeral plans, which they learned of through social media.
She further alleges that the family head informed her she would not be allowed to perform the widowhood rites, a role she insists is rightfully hers, as her marriage to Daddy Lumba was still valid at the time of his death.
