“I Pity Mahama, I Weep For Him” – Kabila On Galamsey Fight

Political activist James Kwabena Bonfeh, popularly known as Kabila, says he feels sorry for former President John Mahama over the ongoing fight against illegal mining, or galamsey.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo morning show, Kabila said Mahama’s recent statements show a genuine desire to tackle the galamsey menace but…

“I weep for Mahama, and I pity him. If you listen to him, you realise he wants to fight galamsey but… why do I say I pity him? It’s because of what he said before the 2024 general election. As I always say, your words will trap you; they’d imprison you.”

Kabila pointed out that while Mahama now speaks strongly against illegal mining, his past comments and perceived inaction have returned to haunt him.

He also criticised the broader approach to the galamsey fight, arguing that attention is being deflected away from key players in the industry.

“We’re not involving those really involved. The big mining companies in this country are not innocent,” he stated, implying that the problem extends beyond small-scale illegal miners.
