The government on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, inaugurated a ministerial committee to coordinate Ghana’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The ceremony took place at the Presidency.
The Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, said the decision to begin the process from the Presidency showed the national weight attached to the tournament.
He said planning must cover more than the football.
Mr Debrah asked the committee to support the technical team, raise funds, manage travel plans, and protect the country’s image during the tournament.

He also instructed the committee to start talks with the United States Embassy to make visa access easier for Ghanaian supporters who wish to travel for the World Cup.
He said embassy officials had recently shown interest in supporting Ghanaian attendance.
“They said they are ready to make sure as many Ghanaians as possible are able to attend,” he said.
Mr Debrah told the committee to act without delay.
“Follow up with the appropriate officials at the American Embassy to make sure Ghanaians are given the opportunity to go and cheer their team,” he said.
Earlier, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Kofi Iddi Adams, thanked the Presidency for its support during the qualifiers. He acknowledged the work done by private sector representatives and other members of the committee.
He said the qualification process involved wide planning and logistical work across different groups.
He said he was confident the country would perform well and present a positive image during the tournament.
