GHANA’S IGP LEADS HISTORIC DELEGATION TO FBI NEW YORK FIELD OFFICE TO STRENGTHEN LAW ENFORCEMENT TIES

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has led a historic high-level delegation from the Ghana Police Service to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) New York Field Office, marking a significant step in strengthening international law enforcement cooperation.

This first-ever official visit by Ghanaian police leadership to the FBI’s New York headquarters aimed to deepen security collaboration between the two countries. The delegation was received by Assistant Director-in-Charge Christopher Raia and his executive team for discussions focused on tackling shared security challenges.

Key areas of discussion included combating cyber-enabled fraud, counterterrorism initiatives, and integrating advanced technology into modern policing practices. Both institutions emphasized the growing importance of addressing transnational criminal networks through coordinated efforts.

“Partnerships like this reaffirm our shared responsibility to protect our people,” stated IGP Dampare. “The Ghana Police Service is committed to adopting advanced investigative tools and intelligence collaboration to prevent crime and ensure the safety and trust of our citizens.”

Assistant Director Raia commended the existing collaboration between the agencies, noting recent joint efforts that have yielded tangible results, including the extradition of cyber fraud suspects from Ghana to the United States.

“Global partnerships such as the one between the FBI and the Ghana Police Service ensure that transnational criminals are held accountable,” said Mr. Raia. “These results are only possible through sustained international cooperation.”

The meeting also explored enhancing cooperation in digital forensics, intelligence exchange, and specialized training programs. With rising extremist threats in West Africa, counterterrorism cooperation formed another crucial aspect of the discussions.

This engagement marks a new chapter in Ghana-U.S. law enforcement relations and reflects the Ghana Police Service’s ongoing commitment to modernization and professionalization as it positions itself as a leading law enforcement institution in West Africa.
