Ghana’s Sports Minister to address 8th AIPS Africa Congress in The Gambia

Ghana’s Honourable Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, is set to play a prominent role at the 8th Association of International Sports Press (AIPS) Africa Congress, scheduled to take place in Banjul, The Gambia, from February 6 to 9, 2026.

The Sports Minister will appear as a guest speaker at the high-profile congress, where he will deliver a presentation on the topic “The Role of Government in African Sports Development.” His address is expected to provide valuable insight into how public policy, governance, and strategic investment can drive sustainable growth in sports across the African continent. The conference will be chaired by His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, underscoring the importance of the event at both regional and continental levels.

Hon. Kofi Adams will be in distinguished company, sharing the platform with several key figures in African sports administration. These include Mr. Bakary Y. Bajide, Gambia’s Minister for Youth and Sports; Hon. Shehu Dikko, Nigeria’s National Sports Commissioner; Hon. Abdoul Kassim Ibrahim Fomba, Mali’s Minister for Youth and Sports; and Hon. Khady Gaye, Senegal’s Minister for Youth and Sports. Together, the leaders are expected to engage in meaningful dialogue on pressing issues affecting sports development in Africa.

On the sidelines of the congress, Minister Adams will also hold strategic meetings with his counterparts to discuss critical areas such as inter-governmental collaboration, sports infrastructure development, athlete welfare, and youth empowerment through sports. These discussions are anticipated to foster partnerships and shared solutions aimed at strengthening sports systems across the continent.

The 8th AIPS Africa Congress will be held under the theme “Digital Media, AI, and Ethical Journalism in Africa” and will take place at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo. The event is designed to equip sports journalists with modern tools, knowledge, and ethical frameworks needed to thrive in an evolving digital landscape.

Over the years, AIPS has played a vital role in protecting the rights of sports journalists, promoting professionalism and ethical standards, and building capacity through education, networking, and collaboration. The congress continues this tradition by providing a dynamic platform for learning, exchange of ideas, and the overall advancement of sports journalism in Africa and beyond.
