I didn’t enter politics to amass wealth – Bawumia. (Prekeh Media)

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated that his involvement in politics is motivated by a genuine desire to transform the lives of Ghanaians, not by the pursuit of personal wealth.

Speaking to a charged crowd of delegates during his campaign tour of Amenfi West in the Western Region, Dr. Bawumia contrasted his record of prudent governance with what he described as the extravagant and wasteful practices of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He cited the Mobile Money Interoperability Project as a prime example of his dedication to accountability and cost-effective leadership. Dr. Bawumia explained that under the NDC, the same project had been proposed at a staggering $1.2 billion, but under his leadership, the NPP government successfully executed it for only $4.5 million.

“When we came into office, we cancelled that deal and completed the entire project for just 4.5 million dollars — not even up to 5 million,” he revealed.

According to him, the cost-saving difference of more than $1.195 billion exemplifies the government’s commitment to efficiency and transparency. The project, he added, has not only linked all mobile money wallets and bank accounts across the country but has also created thousands of jobs for Ghanaians.

“I entered politics to serve the people, not to enrich myself,” Dr. Bawumia declared. “My greatest joy comes from seeing how these projects are transforming lives, not from personal gain.”

He emphasized that his focus has always been on social impact, fiscal discipline, and innovation, positioning himself as a results-driven leader dedicated to national progress.

Concluding his address, Dr. Bawumia underscored his commitment to service-oriented leadership, saying: “I am not in politics for money — I am here to make a difference in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.”

His remarks, highlighting a consistent record of cost reduction, efficiency, and public-centered governance, sought to remind delegates of his proven integrity and financial prudence as he campaigns for the NPP’s flagbearership ahead of the 2028 general elections.
