Mahama Arrives in Ethiopia for 12th Tana Forum on Security

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, for the 12th High-Level Tana Forum on Security in Africa, where he is expected to deliver welcome remarks as Chair of the Forum.

He will then present the State of Peace and Security in Africa report, a key feature of the gathering.

The Tana Forum brings together African leaders, policymakers, security experts and other stakeholders to discuss the continent’s peace and security challenges. It provides a platform for African leaders and institutions to reflect on emerging threats, assess ongoing conflicts and explore African-led solutions to instability.

The 2026 edition is being held under the theme “Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation.

Discussions are expected to examine the relationship between economic independence, regional integration, governance and sustainable peace. This comes at a time when several parts of the continent continue to face complex security threats.

President Mahama’s participation is expected to contribute to wider continental conversations on strengthening African institutions and enhancing cooperation among states. It is also expected to feed into discussions on developing homegrown responses to conflicts and instability.

The key focus will be the President’s assessment of Africa’s peace and security situation, and the proposals in the report to help address the continent’s evolving challenges.
