The New Juaben North Municipal Chief Executive, Ransford Owusu Boakye, has condemned a recent youth attack on the Eastern Regional Hospital and promised security measures to protect staff and patients.
He gave the assurance when he visited the hospital’s management on November 11, following the incident.
“I apologize to you on behalf of Our Regional Minister. Their action was never a directive from any of the appointees or NDC regional executives. There is no way the Party will sanction that. President John Mahama would not interfere in institutional matters. It doesn’t augur well. Let me state emphatically that those people have no locus in the party,” Mr Boakye said.
Mr Ransford Boakye led the Municipal Security Council to the Eastern Regional Hospital to meet the hospital Management for briefing and situational report.
The Hospital Management led by Dr. Forster Amponsah, recounted the incident and appealed for maximum security protection for staff and patients.

“They confronted our staff that they were here for a reset agenda, that our medical superintendent and old staff who have served for over six years must leave. We have been traumatized over the event and thought about they intending to come again. We don’t feel secured. Our security is threatened, we are concerned,” he lamented.
“The safest place to be over the world is the hospital. But if now the hospital is being taken over by people from the streets, it becomes a worrying issue and cannot be entertained, especially when they claim to be from the NDC. We have officially reported the case. If we come to work for patients and we have fears others would attack us, we can’t work in peace, we are very grateful for your presence and assurance,” Dr Amponsah bemoaned.

In response, the MCE, Ransford Owusu Boakye, gave assurances that MUSEC will take swift action to prevent future occurrences and ensure the safety of hospital workers.
“I assure you that we would do everything in our power to bring them to book. The necessary sanctions would be taken, we would even treat it as a criminal case. MUSEC is on top of issues. Ignore their noise, nothing would happen, continue to serve and give off your best. We know things like this would affect morale of workers, but be assured your safety as you work,” Mr Boakye said.
The attack was reportedly carried out by a group of youth demanding a change in the hospital’s leadership.
