NPP Needs Kennedy Agyapong to Help Bawumia Win 2028

A commentary argues that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) needs Kennedy Agyapong to help Dr Mahamudu Bawumia win the 2028 general elections.

The piece, published by prekehmedia – LINK. In its view, the focus should shift from internal competition to unity.

Prekehmedia argues that elections are not won by a presidential candidate alone. It says they depend on teamwork, unity and the ability to inspire every section of a party’s support base.

It describes Mr Agyapong as one of Ghana’s most fearless politicians, known for speaking plainly regardless of who is in power. It says he criticised policies he believed were not in Ghanaians’ interest even when the NPP was in government, and that this has earned him respect from many supporters and some outside the party.

Prekehmedia says his last comments on the Afari Hospital project should not be read as bitterness or disappointment. It presents them as consistent with his belief that truth should not be sacrificed for political convenience.

It argues that the NPP cannot afford to enter the 2028 election divided. It says Mr Agyapong commands a passionate following, particularly among the party’s grassroots, and that his supporters are an important part of the NPP’s electoral strength.

If he fully backs Dr Bawumia’s campaign, the commentary says, it could help bridge internal divisions, energise the party base and show that the NPP is united behind one goal.

It also says the two men offer complementary strengths. It describes Dr Bawumia as widely recognised for his policy and economic background, and Mr Agyapong as connecting with ordinary Ghanaians through direct communication and business experience. Together, it argues, they combine policy expertise with grassroots appeal.

Prekehmedia concludes that the question is no longer who should lead the NPP, but how the party can put its strongest team forward.
