Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Anyaa Fire Station have successfully contained a major commercial fire that broke out in the early hours of Tuesday, October 28, at Tabora Number 4, a suburb of Accra.
In a statement shared on the GNFS official Facebook page, officials said they received a distress call at 1:56 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of a response team to the scene.
Upon arrival, the firefighters were met with a fully developed blaze engulfing a wooden structure, three metal containers, and two self-contained bedrooms. Despite the severity of the fire, the GNFS crew responded swiftly and effectively, using coordinated strategies to bring the flames under control and eventually extinguish them completely.
Their timely action prevented the fire from spreading to nearby properties. However, significant damage was recorded, with one wooden structure, three metal containers and their contents, as well as a two-bedroom self-contained house and personal belongings, destroyed.
An Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) pole and its cables were also partially affected. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The quick response from the Anyaa Fire Station team helped save one metal container and a nearby house, averting greater losses.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with authorities examining whether it may have been caused by an electrical fault or other ignition sources common in commercial areas.

The GNFS has urged the public to prioritize fire safety by installing fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and circuit breakers in homes and business premises to minimize fire risks and potential damage.
