Former President of the National House of Chiefs, Naba Pugansoa Naa Prof. John Sebiyam Nabila, has passed away in Accra after a short illness.
A book of condolence has been opened at his private residence in Accra for mourners and dignitaries to pay their respects.
Sources say a delegation has been dispatched to inform the Nayiri, Paramount Chief of Mamprugu, before an official public announcement is made, in accordance with traditional customs.
Prof. Nabila, who was enstooled as Wulugu Naba on May 22, 1993, was a revered traditional ruler and statesman. He also served as President of the National House of Chiefs, where he championed reforms to strengthen Ghana’s chieftaincy institution and promote peace across the country.
Beyond his traditional leadership, Prof. Nabila was a renowned academic, geographer, politician, and philanthropist. He served as Minister for Information and Tourism under President Hilla Limann during Ghana’s Third Republic.

His passing marks a great loss to both Ghana’s traditional leadership and academic community, where he was admired for his intellect, humility, and national service.
Further details about funeral arrangements will be communicated after consultations with traditional authorities in Mamprugu.
